Laborare Group is supporting the appointment of an experienced Technical Manager to join a growing manufacturing business based in East Yorkshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced chemist and technical leader who enjoys combining hands-on laboratory work with strategic responsibility at management level.

The position is primarily site-based and includes occasional travel within the UK and Europe, including visits to two other facilities in East Yorkshire.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will lead an experienced technical team of five and take responsibility for technical performance, product development, regulatory compliance and customer-led projects.

You will:

  • Provide technical and regulatory leadership across the product portfolio.
  • Lead new product development and customer-led formulation projects.
  • Manage existing products, including reformulation and technical improvement.
  • Oversee quality-control activities and technical standards.
  • Manage regulatory compliance involving CLP, REACH, Cosmetics and Detergents Regulations.
  • Develop and implement the organisation’s technical roadmap.
  • Oversee raw-material information and master-data management.
  • Provide technical support to production teams and customers.
  • Lead new-product introduction and project-management processes.
  • Develop, support and manage the technical team.
  • Work closely with sales, production, procurement and operations colleagues.
  • Ensure technical projects remain commercially realistic and deliverable.
  • Contribute technical expertise to customer discussions and problem-solving.

The position offers a genuine combination of hands-on chemistry, team leadership, customer interaction and strategic technical management.

You will be an experienced chemist and people leader who is equally comfortable working in the laboratory, leading a technical meeting and supporting a customer conversation.

You will bring:

  • An MChem, PhD in Chemistry or equivalent qualification and industry experience.
  • Proven leadership experience as a Technical Manager, Head of Technical or in a comparable position.
  • Strong formulation experience within household and/or industrial chemistry.
  • A good understanding of surfactant, emulsion and lubricant chemistries.
  • Experience translating customer requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • The confidence to work directly with customers and commercial teams.
  • Strong project-management and decision-making skills.
  • Experience leading and developing technical colleagues.
  • A commercially aware and pragmatic approach to technical development.
  • Ideally, experience managing regulatory compliance involving CLP, REACH, Cosmetics and/or Detergents Regulations.
  • The willingness and ability to undertake occasional travel within the UK and Europe.
